One of the most frequent questions we get from patients who are about to have their wisdom teeth removed is, "What can I eat?!" Well, don't worry, it's not as bad as you might think. Yes, you'll be restricted for the next week or so, but we've come up with a great list of delicious foods and even some recipes from Team Wisdom!
We always recommend staying on a liquid/soft foods diet for 5-7 days after wisdom tooth removal. You should avoid eating foods that require chewing to allow your jaw to rest and heal properly. Straws are a no-go, because the sucking motion can cause the blood clot to become dislodged, which leads to a painful dry socket. Just drink straight from the cup or use a spoon for smoothies and milkshakes. Anything with little bits or seeds should be avoided as well, so they don't get caught in the socket and become infected. Don't eat things that are too hot or spicy either. Make sure to follow the post-op cleaning instructions after each meal. Below is a list of what to eat, how to eat it and when to eat it.
