Dr. Metro offers bone grafting and membrane placement to those who need it. Bone grafting is needed when there is not enough existing bone to support a dental implant or when a portion of bone has been removed during a complex extraction.
Cadaver bone is packed into the socket (hole where your tooth was) and a membrane is placed over the bone and stitched up. Your body will naturally turn the cadaver bone into your own and the membrane becomes your gum tissue. This provides a nice scaffolding for a dental implant.
Bone grafting is typically performed during an extraction appointment, but can be performed after the fact if necessary. A bubble-gum-like material is placed over the bone graft and membrane and should be left in place for about 7 days for protection.
